Côte Edinburgh

Tucked away on Frederick Street, Côte Edinburgh brings the timeless charm of Parisian brasseries right into the heart of Scotland’s capital. From the moment you step through the doors, the setting feels effortlessly elegant without being uptight-warm lighting, soft French music, and attentive service set the tone for what’s to come. Whether you're strolling in for a laid-back breakfast or treating yourself to a glass of wine over a late dinner, Côte strikes that perfect balance between comfort and class.

One of the main reasons Côte Edinburgh continues to be a popular choice for locals and visitors alike is its versatility throughout the day. For breakfast, it’s hard to resist the Eggs Royale-perfectly poached eggs nestled on toasted muffins with silky hollandaise and a generous layer of smoked salmon. If you're leaning vegetarian, the Celeriac Steak Frites offers a surprisingly hearty alternative. Add a side of their buttery croissants and a creamy cappuccino, and you’ve got yourself a French-inspired morning ritual.

Lunch-goers tend to gravitate toward the Steak Tartare or the Tuna Niçoise-both fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. And for those who appreciate small sharables, the Charcuterie Board paired with a crisp white wine from their curated list is a no-brainer. The wine menu is worth exploring, by the way-it’s well-chosen and leans heavily on French varietals, including a few surprises from smaller producers that elevate the whole experience.

For dinner, it’s the Beef Cheek Bourguignon that really steals the spotlight. Slow-cooked until fork-tender and bathed in a rich, red wine sauce, it’s one of those dishes that just hits differently-especially when paired with a bold Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon. And if you’ve got room for dessert, take it seriously. The Crème Caramel and Chocolate Fondant are both standouts in a menu that treats dessert as more than an afterthought.

One of the most comforting aspects of Côte Edinburgh is its consistency in quality, which makes it a reliable pick for everything from solo lunches to celebratory dinners. The staff are knowledgeable, quick to recommend dishes based on your tastes, and always make you feel like a welcome guest rather than just another table to clear. You’ll also appreciate the accessibility features-ramp access, accessible restrooms, and comfortable seating arrangements that cater to all guests.

Outdoor seating is available too, which is ideal during warmer months. There’s something undeniably satisfying about sipping a strong espresso and people-watching from a cozy table outside, pretending you’re somewhere in the Marais.

Côte doesn’t offer takeaway or delivery, but that’s part of the charm-it’s a place that encourages you to sit, savor, and stay awhile. And while it’s known for its coffee and dessert selection, the tea menu is equally impressive, offering a relaxing break for those in need of a late afternoon wind-down. For those seeking healthier options, the menu includes lighter dishes, vegan and vegetarian choices, and plenty of fresh juices-making it easy to stick to your preferences without compromising on taste.

In a city brimming with culinary diversity, Côte Edinburgh stands out not by being loud, but by delivering French bistro fare done right. Reliable, charming, and just indulgent enough, it’s the kind of place you return to-not just for the food, but for the feeling.

We can here the day after our engagement and the staff was very attentive and the food was AMAZING!! Everyone was really sweet and even offered us some prosecco which just made everything more special. Highly recommend - would be coming here regularly if we didn't live in England :(

We were in the neighborhood doing some shopping and one of the shoppes mentioned Côte. It was nearby and we walked in during a busy lunch time. The accommodated us very nicely considering we didn’t have a reservation. I adore French food but never get to go when dining with my daughter who is gluten and dairy free. However, they had so many items to choose from for her. The food was outstanding!!! Cannot wait to go back.

We had a fantastic experience, the food was outstanding, the wine was at the perfect temperature, the atmosphere was relaxing and the service was attentive but not overbearing. Our first time here as my wife wanted to try it, so I took her for her birthday. Our new special occasion venue.

Booked Côte Edinburgh for our first evening meal of our short city break as we've used this restaurant chain before and not had a bad experience so thought it was a safe bet. Arrived on time and were seated in the second area of seating wic was nice and comfortable. Ordered a couple of beers whilst we looked through the menu, the waiter didn't say much which was strange as the last time we dined at a Côte we had really good service. When ordered the food the member of staff appeared disinterested and didn't write down our order, fair enough if you are confident in your ability to get it right. Unfortunately this wasn't to case, my wife had the salmon dish and I ordered a ribeye steak with mushroom sauce, I also asked for a bottle of red wine to be served with the meal. The meals turned up without the mushroom sauce and no wine, I mentioned this to the waiter who then disappeared only to return a few minds later with a tiny amount of mushroom sauce in a small pot. He then disappeared again and returned to say the wine was on the way. We were at least halfway through before the wine turned up and it was the lady who took the order who brought it, she did apologise and said she hadn't heard the order. If that was the case why didn't she just ask me to repeat the order. Anyway, the food was nice, the sauce was nice even though it was late and the wine tasted good, so no major problem. As we had planned, we still ordered dessert as we are not in it to cause drama. I went for the salted caramel madeleine, my wife had the chocolate madeleine, these were both enjoyable and finished the meal off on a positive. When the bill came, the waiter informed us that the wine had been removed from the bill as an apology and he again apologised for the mistakes. This was a nice gesture and happily received, I would say that we don't look for this, we would rather have an uncomplicated meal and pay our bill. This has not put us off using Côte restaurants, but was a little surprising that the service wasn't as good as we normally receive. Perhaps this was a one off and just one of those nights. Overall, we did enjoy the meal.
